East Wind 25 Photos

A Beautiful Shot of an East Wind! The original owner and photographer is found!
My name is Brian Wamback and I live in Halifax Nova Scotia.  The name of the boat [in the photo] was Managua II.  The photo of the East Wind was taken by myself.  I owned the boat for about 18 years from about 1981 to 1999.  I sold the boat and bought a C&C 27.

The East Wind is a great boat. This boat was built in 1971, hull number 6-221 and was one of the last East Wind's built.  It was equipped with a one cylinder Volvo Penta Diesel engine. The spar was painted a greenish color, the same color as the deck.  As far as I know it came from the factory that way. It has since been painted white.  The hull shape had changed over the years, with this one having a much straighter sheer line than the older models.

I am about 5'10" and I could stand in cabin. My son and I had spent many great hours sailing the East Wind.  The photo was taken in Snug Cove where we spent many a night on board the boat.

Check out Geoff Park's East Wind 25 hull #67 at the dock at Bluffers Park Yacht Club in Toronto.

Geoff says: The rig was modified by a previous owner some time in the 70s with the boom being shortened and raised, fully battened main and traveler replacing the stern rope traveler, and jib furling. Another owner added the outboard bracket, when the inboard faltered. I've rebuilt the  Palmer gas inboard, but keep the bracket to store my dinghy motor when not in use.

Eugene Gaumond wrote in with these great pictures of his East Wind. He tells us he bought his 1964 version in 1999. Eugene's boat is named JASMIN.
