I bought the boat in 1975, and don’t know
anything about its previous history. The hull was probably white,
but it has been painted light green. The deck is still the original
light blue gel coat. I fixed some cracks in the fiberglass, made
a mahogany door for the storage compartment and replaced some
of the fittings and ropes. It has been stored indoors for the
last 25 years. Currently the centerboard needs some work.
I have hauled the boat around on a small trailer to various lakes
in Alberta such as Long Lake, Calling Lake, Pigeon Lake and Cooking
Lake. The lakes close to Edmonton tend to be shallow and have
poor boat ramps. With the recent dry years it has not gotten any
better. The water level at Cooking Lake where I usually sail (about
once a year lately) has dropped about one meter. The lake is shallow
to start with so it is not unusual to drag the centerboard through
the mud half a mile from shore.
Last week I went sailing there with my daughter
and got the trailer stuck in the mud at the boat ramp. After about
an hour delay I went to the Cooking Lake Sail Club, and the folks
there were very helpful in transferring my boat to a dolly so
I could roll it out far enough to launch it. We had an excellent
afternoon of sailing and might even go once more this year.
There are plenty of large lakes in Alberta that would be excellent
for sailing, but I don’t want to drive for 2-4 hours just
to go sailing. Cooking Lake is only 45 minutes away. |
