Down Below in the Westwind!
Recently Doug reported  "I've sold the boat (sorry to say).  I loved that old boat and she took good care of me out on Lake Superior.  My wife and I are soon to retire and we decided a trawler was a good way for an old sailor to retire.  Less rigging.  I'm rebuilding a GlenL design "Jolly Roger" that we hope to ply the inland waterway system"
Good Luck to you Doug!

Below are some wonderful old photos of a 1966 Westwind owned at one time by Brad Carpenter's father, Charles.  Brad's family no longer are Paceship owners but have raced Hobie's (predominately the Hobie 16) both extensively and successfully on regional as well as national levels. The entire family still own and sail several boats and Brad's daughter has recently expressed a desire to get into racing too!

About the family Westwind, Brad writes:

Attached are photos of Westwind Hull #11 from 1966, the year the 4C's was purchased new by my father.  (That's me as 8 yr. old live ballast!)  She was sold after the 1969 season.

Unfortunately, I can't add much about the way she sailed as I was basically a passenger.  My father did race her with the South Bay Cruising Club and had moderate success; his biggest triumph winning a night race from Babylon to Bellport and back.

She was kept in Sayville, NY on the Great South Bay.  We cruised to various points on Fire Island and took one extended cruise to Mystic Seaport, CT.  She was sold to "move up" to a larger boat.  The biggest complaint I remember my father having was the 6 hp Johnson outboard being undersized for the boat and the propeller coming out of the water when hobby horsing in choppy seas.
