Hello guys! Salut les mecs!

Where are you lacated Antoine?

Oui je suis toujours la!

Yes i am still there!

ok Antoine, here we have 3 ft of snow over the boat, so, difficult to take pictures, but i will seek in old stuff, maybe i have a picture from the roof showing the lines, cleats and winch.  But i have no handrail on my PY23

For thoses looking at this forum and not speaking english very well (i mean badly then i speak! if it is possible) lol i may write my  posts in french too.

HI PTSBUG!

what do you mean by "Is it open water yet?"

i will try to explain how i use the halyard arrangement Antoine is talking about to help raising the mast alone.

first you need a solid 9 ft long pole (aluminium is best, 1-1/4" frosst fence steel post might be good) personnally, I use my spinnaker pole.

In the following setup the tubing must be in 2 parts (1 male ane female) to permit screwing the lower part an the mast foot while the headstay is secured to the upper part.

a 2-1/2" long 1/4" x 1" flat bar with tree1/4" inline holes, one in center, and the 2 others at 1/2" from both end

It might be a tubing with a 1/4 x 1" deep slot from the tubing end, and a 1/4" hole perpendicular from the slot at 1/2" from the same end. The 1/4" x 2-1/4" flat bar wil be inserted in the slot and secured with a 1/4 bolt.  At the other end, and a 1/2 nut welded in the axis of the tubing . I will reffer at this part as "the pole"

Attach a good halyard rope to one end of the flat bar. at least 5/16 good quality halyard stuf.  Strong enough to sustain the puling power from a winch. this rop must be long enough to go from the upper end of  vertically installed pole over the mast foot, trough a block secured at the bow , then back to the cockpit trough a cam cleat and around the winch.

second, you might have à good mast support that goes as far aft as the bottom of the transom is.  This permit to move the mast horizontally aft enough to put the 1/2" pin at the mast foot alone.

third, you must have a kind of fixture on the front side of the mast foot to secure one end of the 9 ft pole vertically when the mast is still horizontal. Originally, it was an 1/2 inch ss bolt thread welded to mast foot

Then, snap the jib halyard to the ring at the first candlestick base aft the mast step. (left or right, don't care)

After this, do the same thing with the main halyard on the opposite side.

The halyards wil be used to avoid the mast to swing from side to side.

s<Secure the the bottom end of headstay to one side of the flatbar.

Then, screw the pole vertically on the mast foot.

i realize that it is very long to explain that way.

i will try to make a sketch of the setup, and then be back

Salut Patrick

Je suis à Gatineau, mon bateau est sur la rivière Outaouais, en amont d'Ottawa.

J'ai bien hâte de voir les photos mais t'inquiètes, il n'y a pas de presse!

[Tranlation by Jay if my French is still in tact: I'm in Gatineau, my boat is on the Ottawa River, upstream from Ottawa. I look forward to seeing the pictures but worry, there's no rush!]

I thought the handrails would get in the way... If I can't find a way to make it work, I might consider a roller-furling unit... no drilling holes and my boat never goes on a trailer (fin keel version anyways)

Merci Patrick!
